Idaho snubs feds over hemp

Truck driver Denis Palamarchuck is collateral damage in the battle over cannabis legalization. Last month Idaho state police arrested Palamarchuck for driving hemp across the state border, even though the federal government legalized hemp transport in December 2018. Livestock groups ask DOT for hours-of-service waivers

A coalition of groups representing livestock haulers and others has asked the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for more lenient hours of service regulations. Study: Under ELDs, crash rates flat but unsafe driving violations are up

A group of researchers this month issued a report on the effects of the electronic logging device mandate, and they reached two main conclusions: The use of ELDs has not reduced the rate of truck crashes, but it has increased the frequency of speeding violations, particularly among the small carrier segment. Legislation giving Trump more tariff authority on shaky ground

A month before U.S. tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods are scheduled to jump to 25% on March 1, freight interests outside the Beltway are concerned about legislation aimed at giving President Donald Trump even more tariff-wielding power. Research reveals mixed ELD safety effects
